Blondshell Returns with “What’s Fair”
Sabrina Teitelbaum, who goes by Blondshell, thinks mother-daughter relationships are naturally complicated.
This summer, sheĆ¢ā¬ā¢s been playing her new song “WhatĆ¢ā¬ā¢s Fair” at festivals. On Wednesday, she released it officially, along with a fuzzy video showing her and her band in the studio. The song has a sunny tune but talks about dark topics like trauma between mothers and daughters. One line goes, Ć¢ā¬ÅI grew up fast without you/Did my lashes in the bathroom/And some things youĆ¢ā¬ā¢d like to skip/16 sucking dick in the bathroom.Ć¢ā¬Ā
Ć¢ā¬ÅI think that any relationship between a mother and a daughter is inherently complicated,Ć¢ā¬Ā said Teitelbaum. She feels this way because of her own experiences filled with trauma and loss. Ć¢ā¬ÅWhat are you allowed to expect, what is normal, what behavior from a parent is okay or not okay etc? And to what extent does Ć¢ā¬ĖnormalĆ¢ā¬ā¢ even matter, when your experience is all you have? I was just trying to sift through the past when I wrote this song, and I mostly had a lot of questions.Ć¢ā¬Ā
BlondshellĆ¢ā¬ā¢s latest song follows her hit Ć¢ā¬ÅDocket,Ć¢ā¬Ā made with Bully, which made it to Rolling StoneĆ¢ā¬ā¢s Best Songs of 2024 list. SheĆ¢ā¬ā¢s been busy touring since her debut album last year and shared some photos from her journey.
At Lollapalooza, Teitelbaum talked to Rolling Stone about her new record. Ć¢ā¬ÅIt feels more grown up,Ć¢ā¬Ā she said. Ć¢ā¬ÅI know who I am more now than I did a couple years ago. I am a mature woman making an album.Ć¢ā¬Ā
Fans can really connect with her honest music.
