Chappell Roan Sets Boundaries Amid Rising Fame
Chappell Roan is feeling more love but also the most unsafe she has ever felt.
SheĆ¢ā¬ā¢s been talking about creepy harassment and stalker behavior, sharing her thoughts in a long Instagram post last Friday.
Roan turned off comments on her post, saying, Ć¢ā¬ÅIĆ¢ā¬ā¢m not looking for anyoneĆ¢ā¬ā¢s response. This isnĆ¢ā¬ā¢t a group conversation. I understand that this is jarring to hear from a person in my position. IĆ¢ā¬ā¢m not afraid of the consequences for demanding respect.Ć¢ā¬Ā
Ć¢ā¬ÅFor the past 10 years IĆ¢ā¬ā¢ve been non-stop to build my project,Ć¢ā¬Ā she wrote, Ć¢ā¬Åand itĆ¢ā¬ā¢s come to the point that I need to draw lines and set boundaries. I want to be an artist for a very very long time. IĆ¢ā¬ā¢ve been in too many nonconsensual physical and social interactions and I just need to lay it out and remind you, women donĆ¢ā¬ā¢t owe you shit.Ć¢ā¬Ā
Roan said she chose music because she loves it and wants to honor her inner child, not to accept harassment. She doesnĆ¢ā¬ā¢t think she deserves any bad treatment just because of her career path.
When sheĆ¢ā¬ā¢s performing or doing press, she says sheĆ¢ā¬ā¢s at work. Outside of those times, she wants her personal space respected. Ć¢ā¬ÅI am clocked out,Ć¢ā¬Ā she emphasized.
She expressed her wish to enjoy life like anyone else. Ć¢ā¬ÅPlease stop touching me. Please stop being weird to my family and friends. Please stop assuming things about me. There is always more to the story. I am scared and tired.Ć¢ā¬Ā
In a TikTok video, Roan said she doesnĆ¢ā¬ā¢t care if abuse and harassment are normal for famous people. She rejects the idea that bad behavior should come with her job.
Fans feel concerned about her safety and well-being.
Ć¢ā¬ÅThere is a part of myself that I save just for my project and all of you,Ć¢ā¬Ā she concluded in her statement. Ć¢ā¬ÅThere is a part of myself that is just for me, and I donĆ¢ā¬ā¢t want that taken away from me.Ć¢ā¬Ā
