Fatman Scoop Dies of Heart Disease, Medical Examiner Says

Fatman Scoop’s Passing

The rapper known for “Be Faithful” collapsed on stage in Connecticut last month and passed away.

Fatman Scoop, whose real name was Isaac Freeman III, died from heart disease, according to the medical examiner. He also had hypertension and a condition caused by plaque buildup in the arteries.

Famous for his unique chants in the 1999 hit “Be Faithful” and Missy Elliott’s 2005 song “Lose Control,Ć¢ā‚¬Ā Scoop also contributed to Mariah Carey’s “It’s Like That,Ć¢ā‚¬Ā which got a Grammy nod.

During a performance on August 30 in Hamden, Connecticut, he had a medical emergency and was rushed to the hospital. The Mayor of the city confirmed this on social media. A video showed him out of breath asking the crowd to “make some noise” before collapsing behind the DJ booth.

The next day, his tour manager Bryan “DJ Pure ColdĆ¢ā‚¬Ā Michael announced on Instagram that Scoop had died. There were many tributes after his death. His touring agency said his voice, energy, and personality left a lasting impact. Missy Elliott tweeted that his music made “people feel HAPPY & want to dance for over 2 decades.”

Fans remember how much joy he brought through his music.

Busta Rhymes, A$AP Ferg, Teddy Riley, and others honored him on September 12 at the Apollo Theater in Harlem.
