New Album Fueled by Fear
Franz Ferdinand’s upcoming album, The Human Fear, is all about different types of fear.
Their new song, "Audacious," has a happy tune with ska-like beats that donĆ¢ā¬ā¢t sound scary at all. In the music video, Alex Kapranos sings, Ć¢ā¬ÅDid you ever get the feeling that thereĆ¢ā¬ā¢s something come undone?Ć¢ā¬Ā But instead of being gloomy, the band dances in glitter and smells flowers. The chorus goes, Ć¢ā¬ÅDonĆ¢ā¬ā¢t stop feeling audacious, thereĆ¢ā¬ā¢s no one to save us, so just carry on.Ć¢ā¬Ā The director, Andy Knowles, who also directed Ć¢ā¬ÅCurious,Ć¢ā¬Ā made the video feel like a fun party.
Kapranos shared that making this album was one of the most life-affirming experiences he’s had. He said, Ć¢ā¬ÅFear reminds you that youĆ¢ā¬ā¢re alive. I think we all are addicted in some way to the buzz it can give us. How we respond to it shows how we are human. So hereĆ¢ā¬ā¢s a bunch of songs searching for the thrill of being human via fears. Not that youĆ¢ā¬ā¢d necessarily notice on first listen.Ć¢ā¬Ā
Fans can find this relatable.
Kapranos explained that Ć¢ā¬ÅAudaciousĆ¢ā¬Ā is about facing fear boldly. He said, Ć¢ā¬ÅItĆ¢ā¬ā¢s about having an audacious response when you feel the fabric of existence come undone around you. Being bold, contrary. Peering over the edge into the eternity of non-existence and saying Aye! Fuck it! Not today thank you!Ć¢ā¬Ā
The band collaborated with Mark Ralph again for this album, who also produced their 2013 album, Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action. There will be a deluxe edition with demos of the songs too.
