Jane’s Addiction Says Sorry for Onstage Fight

The band Jane’s Addiction apologized to their fans for the fight between Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro during their show in Boston last Friday.

In a message shared on Instagram, the band said, “We want to extend a heartfelt apology for the events that unfolded last night,” and announced that they would be canceling the Bridgeport show. They also provided details on how fans could get refunds for the canceled Connecticut show.

On Friday night, while performing “Ocean Size” at their reunion concert, Farrell seemed upset. Video from the concert showed him moving towards Navarro, pushing his shoulder, and shouting. Navarro looked surprised and tried to hold Farrell back with his arm, but Farrell punched it away.

A crew member rushed on stage, telling Farrell to stop, while Navarro exclaimed, “What the fuck?” Farrell tried to go after Navarro again, but more crew members and bassist Eric Avery held him back and took him off the stage. Navarro left soon after, ending the concert abruptly after just 11 songs. The reason behind Farrell’s anger was unclear.

Farrell’s wife, Etty, shared her perspective on Instagram the next morning.

“There had been a lot of tension and animosity… the magic that made the band so dynamic. Well, the dynamite was lit,” she wrote, along with a video of the incident.

Etty explained that Perry had been frustrated for several nights because the stage volume was too loud, drowning out his voice. He was suffering from tinnitus and a sore throat, and when fans in the front row complained they couldn’t hear him, he lost his cool.

She also mentioned that Avery “put Perry in a headlock and punched him in the stomach three times.”

“Perry was a crazed beast for the next half an hour – he finally did not calm down, but did breakdown and cried and cried,” she added.

This tour was the first time in 14 years that the band’s original lineup of Farrell, Navarro, Avery, and Stephen Perkins had toured together. It came after Navarro had temporarily left the band due to long Covid.
