Maná Cancels Nicky Jam Collab After Trump Endorsement

Nicky Jam’s Song with Maná Disappears from Streaming

Maná has removed their song “De Pies a Cabeza” featuring Nicky Jam from streaming platforms.

The Mexican band made this decision after Nicky showed support for Donald Trump. Fher Olvera from Maná said, “Maná doesn’t work with racists.”

Maná also posted in Spanish that they have defended Latinos’ rights for 30 years and will always prioritize their dignity over business. So, the song with Nicky Jam is now off digital platforms.

Last Friday, Nicky Jam joined Trump onstage in Las Vegas and endorsed him. He told the crowd, “We need you. We need you back, right? We need you to be the president.”

Trump introduced Nicky but mistakenly called him a “she,” saying “Do you know Nicky? She’s hot. Where’s Nicky?”

Maná originally collaborated with Nicky on the new version of “De Pies a Cabeza” in 2016. Nicky once said the band were his idols and working with them was a blessing. Before being removed, the song had more than 120 million streams on Spotify.

The band Maná is known for supporting Democratic causes and immigration reform. In 2016, Fher Olvera criticized Trump’s views on immigration, calling him a racist on Twitter.

In 2020, they celebrated Joe Biden’s victory by posting “Make America Kind Again” and expressing unity in diversity.

Fans sometimes feel torn when celebrities mix politics and music.

Maná’s removal of the song came after other reggaeton stars like Anuel AA and Justin Quiles also supported Trump.

Many fans of Nicky Jam felt upset because he had previously supported DACA recipients, calling Trump’s actions racist. He said in a video with Spotify, “They are hard-working people who bring so much to the table for this country. They deserve so much.”

Interestingly, Nicky Jam said in an interview just days before endorsing Trump that he would never get involved in politics.
