Musical Reunion in Pittsburgh
Michael Stipe and Jason Isbell joined forces on stage for a special performance at a Pittsburgh event, marking Stipe’s first public appearance in five years.
The duo, brought to the spotlight by Doug Emhoff, played some classic tunes. “So honored and just geeking out, nerding out and geeking out that IĆ¢ā¬ā¢m about to introduce Michael Stipe and Jason Isbell,” said Emhoff excitedly.
Stipe expressed his joy, saying, Ć¢ā¬ÅItĆ¢ā¬ā¢s been awhile since IĆ¢ā¬ā¢ve sung these songs, 16 years in fact, but IĆ¢ā¬ā¢m really happy to be here with Jason and with the soon-to-be-ever First Gentleman of the United States of America.Ć¢ā¬Ā He wore a camo hat showing support for the Harris-Walz campaign.
Fans always love it when music brings people together.
Their performance started with “The One I Love,” where Stipe led with vocals and Isbell supported with guitar. The crowd was treated to Isbell’s “Traveling Alone” and “Hope the High Road,” followed by a nostalgic return to “Driver 8,” a song Stipe hadn’t performed live since 2008.
Previously, Stipe surprised many by reuniting with R.E.M. bandmates to play “Losing My Religion” at their Songwriters Hall of Fame induction, a first since 2007.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqT1NFYEXE8
