Rich Homie Quan Passes Away at 33

Rich Homie Quan, known for his Atlanta rap hits in the 2010s, died on Thursday.

He was born Dequantes Lamar and got popular in 2013 with tracks like “Type of Way” and “My Nigga.” But even before that, he was known in Atlanta since 2008 with “Stay Down.” His life had ups and downs; in 2011, he spent 15 months in jail. He shared in an interview that books by James Patterson and Sandra Brown, along with making songs, helped him through tough times.

Upon release, he focused on making music about working hard. He released mixtapes starting with “I Go in on Every Song” in 2012. His song “Type of Way” became a big hit in 2013, getting remixes from Jeezy and Meek Mill. Later hits included “Walk Thru” and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh),” which went viral thanks to a dance.

Fans always appreciated his dedication and hard work.

When Birdman created the supergroup Rich Gang, Quan stood out with songs like “Lifestyle” alongside Young Thug. He worked with artists like Gucci Mane, Trinidad James, 2 Chainz, and more. In 2018, he finally released his debut album, “Rich as in Spirit.”

Lamar was the eldest of three kids. He loved baseball, poetry, and the show “Boy Meets World” when he was young. Just a day before his death, he gave a warm interview, joking with the young reporter about feeling old and giving her a hug.

Asked about his future plans, he said, “We got a plethora of music,” and expressed a desire for people to appreciate it. He emphasized that he wanted to market his music well. Though he didn’t confirm a release date, he hoped to release something before his birthday on October 4.
