Stereophonic Extends Broadway Run One Last Time

Stereophonic, a folk-rock musical, will stay on Broadway longer than planned.

Producers announced the show’s run will now go until January 12, 2025. This is the last extension for the musical, they said. Sarah Pidgeon, Juliana Canfield, and Tom Pecinka, who have been in the show since April, will perform their last shows on September 29. After that, Amy Forsyth, Rebecca Naomi Jones, and Benjamin Anthony Anderson will take over their roles starting October 1 at the Golden Theater.

Set in 1976, Stereophonic follows a band recording an album just as they are about to become famous. The play has many nods to Fleetwood Mac and their 1977 hit album Rumours. Writer David Adjmi said many bands inspired the story, but Fleetwood Mac is the closest comparison because of the band’s real-life drama.

Fans think it’s amazing how the play captures the rock and roll vibe so well.

At this year’s Tony Awards in June, Stereophonic broke the record with 13 nominations, beating Slave Play’s 12. By the end of the night, it won five awards: Best New Play, Best Direction, Best Featured Actor, Best Scenic Design, and Best Sound Design.

Brittany Spanos from Rolling Stone praised the show as “an absolute triumph of a show, a delicious four-course meal about a band packin’ up, shackin’ up, and attempting to keep their success going, as scary as it may seem,” in her review.
