Taylor Swift’s Big Night at the VMAs

Taylor Swift had an amazing night at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards.

Her song "Fortnight," a collaboration with Post Malone from her album Tortured Poets Department, won Video of the Year, making her the first artist to achieve this honor three years in a row. This win added to her record for the most Video of the Year awards, with previous wins in 2023 for "Anti-Hero," 2022 for All Too Well: The Short Film, 2019 for "You Need to Calm Down," and 2015 for "Bad Blood."

In her speech, she said, “To the fans, I’m always trying to figure out a way to say thank you to you for making my life what it is, for making the Eras tour what it has become, for making the Tortured Poets Department what it has become. That’s all you guys for doing that and for voting for this award. So thank you to MTV for giving me this opportunity to thank the fans, to thank you for what you’ve done.”

It’s amazing how Swift keeps achieving so many milestones.

Coming into the VMAs with 12 nominations, she tied Beyoncé as the most awarded artist in VMA history. Swift now holds 25 VMAs as a solo artist, surpassing Beyoncé’s solo count. Despite Beyoncé being nominated for three awards this year, she didn’t win any, while Swift collected seven, including Artist of the Year, Best Pop, Best Collaboration, Best Direction, Best Editing, and Song of the Summer.

Swift was also nominated for the new Most Iconic Performance award for her subway performance of “You Belong With Me” in 2009, a performance famously interrupted by Kanye West.

Her big night at the VMAs comes as she prepares for the final leg of The Eras Tour. Starting October 18, she’ll be performing in cities like Miami, New Orleans, Indianapolis, Toronto, and Vancouver until mid-December.
