Timothée Chalamet Embraces Bob Dylan Style at NYC Premiere

Timothée Chalamet dressed up like Bob Dylan at the New York premiere of A Complete Unknown, finishing a week full of promotional events.

Chalamet’s Fashion Tribute

The day before, he wore a different Dylan-inspired outfit on TV, but for this event, he showed up in a leather jacket, red plaid shirt, blue beanie, and gray scarf, with freshly dyed blond hair. This look was a nod to Dylan’s style from the 2003 Sundance Film Festival when he attended the premiere of his movie, Masked and Anonymous.

Honoring Dylan’s Legacy

“The worst thing we could’ve done with a Bob Dylan biopic is sanitize it, is make it sound clean,” Chalamet told Stephen Colbert. “This was a man from iron ore country. You hear the coal country in his voice. I didn’t want to be a New Yorker recording in Los Angeles decimating that music. I wanted to honor that legacy, this is an American hero, one of the fantastic artists of our time.”

Fans think it’s cool when actors put so much effort into preparing for a role.

Chalamet called this film the one he’s most proud of, having worked on it for five years. The movie faced delays due to the pandemic and Hollywood strikes. His vocal coach, Eric Vetro, shared insights on how they trained him to sing like Dylan.

Training to Sound Like Dylan

“We would do normal exercises that I would give to anyone just to strengthen their voice, widen their range. That’s how we would start,” said Vetro. Then they tried to imagine how Dylan himself might approach the exercises, giving it a personal twist.

You can catch A Complete Unknown, which isn’t entirely accurate, in theaters on Christmas Day.
